NEW JERSEY NATURAL GAS ANNOUNCES WINNER OF THE DON’T HOG ENERGY! VIDEO CONTEST
02/05/2025 - For Immediate ReleaseFebruary 5, 2025 – New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG) is pleased to announce the winner of its “Don’t Hog Energy!” Video Contest, an initiative designed to promote energy conservation through visually impactful storytelling. Amy Kaszuba of Manahawkin, N.J. took the top honor with her stylized animated video that delivers an engaging and entertaining take on “The Efficient Fable of the Big Bad Energy Hog.”
Amy’s original artwork transforms the story from the national nonprofit Alliance to Save Energy (Alliance) into an informative and playful adventure that makes learning about saving energy fun for young students. The tale follows three wolves who take steps to save energy and protect the environment as their nemesis the Energy Hog lurks about trying to trick them with his wasteful ways. Amy was awarded $10,000 for her winning animated video.
The 5-minute video will serve as a learning tool for kindergarten through second grade students as a part of NJNG’s Energy for Education initiative and the Alliance’s EmPowered Schools program. A video teaser can be viewed at njresources.com/community/education/dont-hog-energy-video-contest.aspx.
“This video is an exciting tool and resource that will help make energy savings fun and engaging for children in New Jersey classrooms and beyond,” said Carolyn Cannon, director of Community Relations at New Jersey Natural Gas. “NJNG is committed to educating the next generation of energy-efficiency leaders and encouraging them to make wise energy choices now for a sustainable future.”
“We are excited to highlight the Fable of the Big Bad Energy Hog as part of the curriculum for the EmPowered Schools program,” said Francesca Arato, director of education at the Alliance to Save Energy. “We share NJNG’s commitment to reach students in the early years – so they can embrace energy-saving habits throughout their lives.”
