NEW JERSEY NATURAL GAS NAMED AN ENVIRONMENTAL CHAMPION
04/22/2021 - For Immediate ReleaseApril 22, 2021 (Wall, N.J.) – New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG) was named a 2021 Environmental Champion according to the Cogent Syndicated 2021 Utility Trusted Brand & Customer Engagement™: Residential study by Escalent. This is the sixth time NJNG has been recognized for its dedication to the environment since the study’s inception in 2014.

Escalent conducted surveys among 74,224 residential electric, natural gas and combination utility customers of the 140 largest U.S. utility companies. The Environmental Dedication index score is a composite based upon consumer ratings provided across five survey questions. NJNG’s score of 713 (on a 1,000-point scale) ranks in the top tier among all natural gas utilities in the east region and exceeded the national industry average of 688.
NJNG’s record of Environmental Dedication and Sustainability Action:
- Operates the most environmentally sound natural gas distribution system in New Jersey today, as measured by leaks per mile
- Invested more than $1.9 billion in its natural gas delivery system over the last decade
- First natural gas utility to eliminate cast iron from its delivery system; approximately 99% of main now composed of either plastic or protected steel
- In fiscal 2020, reduced 234 metric tons of methane emissions from its distribution system
- Invested nearly $220 million in energy-efficiency programs helping nearly 64,000 customers and generating more than $488 million in economic activity
- Launched the Coastal Climate Initiative, a program aimed at advancing climate change solutions and protecting coastal communities in its service territory
