NEW JERSEY NATURAL GAS FILES SBC ADJUSTMENT WITH THE BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES
01/27/2009 - For Immediate ReleaseWALL, N.J. – New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG) today submitted its annual compliance filing with the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) seeking an adjustment to the Societal Benefits Charge (SBC). The SBC was established in 1999 under New Jersey state law to enable utilities to recover costs associated with programs that provide a societal benefit such as assistance programs for low-income customers, consumer education, remediation and renewable and energy efficiency programs. If this request is approved by the BPU, a typical residential customer using 100 therms a month would see an increase of $0.82 a month or $8.20 per year on a 1000 therm bill. This adjustment will not increase profits to the utility.
